Reimagined artwork

A monumental reinterpretation of Delacroix’s Sultan on horseback, transformed from a preparatory drawing into an imagined historical painting of Moroccan royal ceremony.

The Sultan, ceremonial parasol, horses, entourage, weapons, and architecture remain the visual anchors, but the scene is reconstructed as if it belonged to a Moroccan historical archive.

What it represents

The royal court, authority, ceremony, hierarchy, and the visual memory of Morocco’s sultans.

What caught my eye

What immediately stood out was the Sultan as the visual center of the entire composition. Delacroix's 1845 version is particularly interesting because he removed the French delegation, shifting the image away from diplomatic documentation and toward an imposing portrait of the ruler.

For the project, that became an opportunity to transform a foreign artist's historical image into a fictional Moroccan archival record.
